Horticulture Lighting Group 650R Diablo LED light
I picked up an HLG 650R Diablo grow light in October. It is a very nice light. It replaced two air cooled 600 watt HPS. My main problem was height. I have a room, 6′ x 10′ x 6′. I don’t have a lot of head room. I’m using low profile pump driven hydroponics. The girls were regularly shooting to the ceiling, beyond the high pressure sodium lights or occasionally burning buds. They don’t do that under the 650R. The canopy is even and wonderful. The plants do not stretch. I’m told it’s due to an increase in the blue spectrum. Height is easily controlled with a double scrog (screen of green). Harvest was definitely increased substantially. The buds were tight from the top to the bottom. There really wasn’t much larf (smaller, loose buds) to speak of.
The penetration and strength of the LEDs is so powerful I have too dim it to a little over 50% at 30″ from the canopy. I have two strains, flo og loves it but the g13 haze, not so much.
The light is pricey, $1,100, but so are replacement bulbs for my old setup, as well as running costs. Two 600 watt Hortilux bulbs every six months is at least $200. The HLG has a 3 year warranty. My energy consumption also dropped. I am somewhat disappointed about the heat though. For some silly reason I figured LEDs wouldn’t be that hot. Lol. The 650R is cooler than the twin air cooled/vented 600 watt HPS lights, but not dramatically so.
Overall I’d definitely recommend the HLG 650R. As a matter of fact I just ordered their 350R full spectrum for my veg room.
