    sup all,

I’m still wet behind the ears as far as members go, but most forums usually have a ‘starter’s guide’ or ‘things you should know before you start growing’ post and an introduction forum.

I was looking through the forum and I couldn’t pull it anything of that nature and was wondering if anyone would be interested in helping me along with it. I’ve been exploring the culture and trying to prep myself and my area before I start as was recommended to me.

Things that I’d like to answer are:
Where to start? seeds or clones? Feminized / Autos / etc.? Strains? Vendors? Setup? Soil vs Hydro vs livesoil? Caring for spouts/flowers? Nutrients..

If there’s already a guide that people are using, if you don’t mind please reply or point me in the right direction.

    peace.

If your a beginner I would keep it simple and go soil. Hand water so you can get to know what your plants need. And do a lot of research. The knowledge is endless. After you get experience I would definitely recommend trying out other ways and see what works for you. Happy growing!

Thanks, I’ve been interested in hydroponics but I think it is a bit advanced when in comes to how to treat the water. Also, i think it may need more attention in the beginning specially when I’m still trying to get to know my plant.

I am a new grower. I have not started yet, but I’ll probably get seeds into the water in about a week. I am going to grow autoflowers the first time, and maybe the 2nd time as well.

I am going to grow hydro because it seems easier than soil. I have some physical issues that don’t allow me to pick up bags of soil and such. Plus I don’t have the storage necessary for such things 🤙🏿✌🏾.

I am curious about your grow and what you decide. I’ve joined 3 or 4 grow forums, and it seems that everyone has borrowed grow ideas from everywhere, given the same media and such.

FYI, I’ll be growing in a DWC with top feeding and aeroponics. I’m gonna start with 6 seeds in a grow cabinet. I harvest around my bday in January. I’ve been reading, watching videos 6-8 hours per day since August. THAT IS NOT TO IN ANY WAY IMPLY I AM NOW SMARTER THAN EVERYONE ELSE ON THE SUBJECT. ABSOLUTELY NOT.

My expectations are that my grow will be successful, I expect to have problems & setbacks, I expect to be able to find solutions to those problems, and I expect a fairly successful grow.

After rereading this post, I seem to come off as arrogant. I’ve found in the past, if I don’t have expectations, then nothing will come of whatever I am pursuing.

You can tell me to shove it, or tell me I’m full of whatever fertilizer I’m currently using, I will not be offended or respond harshly. I am here to learn from the mistakes of others.

    GOOD LUCK 😎✌🏾

Search on Youtube (Mr. Grow It beginner). He has a 4 part video series which is excellent for the basics on growing in soil

    GOLLO,

I’d like to start off by saying, ‘shove it, and your full of whatever fertilizer your currently using’ (though i dont think you’re using any).- ok-ok im kidding.. In all seriousness, thanks for responding I found this very helpful and I’m equally curious about other’s setup.

I’ve thought about hydroponics and I have to suppress my inner nerd/techy because it’d be cool to do some automation. However, I am a bit wary about treating the water and the equipment needed for the completely setup (air pump, pvc, etc.).. All in all, I haven’t completely decided yet because i haven’t gotten my seeds.

I order Gold Left, Blue Dream and Maple Leaf Indica seeds and initial i thought it would have been a bit easier. However, going through the process I could understand why it is the way is it. It would probably be cool/better to get seeds from someone you know. As was recommended in the CGB.

I was reading the CGB and have been thinking about getting a propagation tray which was said to have a high probability of success.

    Thanks for the feedback!

Dirt is easier to manage and a cheaper start than hydro.. if going hydro plan to invest at least $1000 in a setup, more if more plants.. you needa LOT more stuff simply.

Don’grow autos for your first grows, autos are in fact not a beginner friendly plant cause the clock is always ticking. Photo period feminized seeds will let you mess up and learn on your way to first harvest. Be happy if you get anything from first harvest, saying that you absolutely can yeild a nice crop if patient and open to learning. A few photo periods will also .etc you try different things with them. Autos are for when you get good and want a simple plant, not 1st grow. Imo

I forgot to mention, I did go hydro with autos, everyone including dad, is doing fine. In fact, I did some things to my girls not advised by most growers or forums. I fimmed one of my autos, and defoliated them at least 3 times, in addition to LSTing 3 of the girls. Can you tell which ones were abused & used? The stems of these ladies are bigger than 2 pencils. They are only 10 inches tall, but all are flowering.
