Good Morning Mr. Borges,
I am a graduate of MJC (quite some time ago) and went on to CSUS for my BA and MA. I have started a new hobby and have run across something I think the college could benefit from with little work.
I am trying to find a local source for a super soil that does not need bottled additives, fertilizers etc. I am trying to get away from using chemicals to grow my crops. There are a few of these soil companies in the Midwest, but it does not make fiscal sense to pay for the soil and shipping. I have cc’d two professors who teach the MNR 200 Soils class because I think you probably already cover creating a super soil in the course content. What if MJC started mixing up batches of super soil and sold it to our local community? Just mix a big batch and sell it by the yard, no need to bag it, little additional overhead and I think the potential for additional funds to help support the Ag program would be substantial. I cannot find a local source for super soil and I know we have a large population that grow many small crops both indoors and out. Once word got out it might be something that could really pay off for MJC. All it might take is a flyer at the local hydroponic store and word will travel.
